SHILLONG, JULY 13: Peeved with opposition Trinamool leader Mukul Sangma for accusing his government of giving away land to Assam as part of the border deal, Meghalaya Chief Minister has given his response to the allegations and clarified that the border agreement was done based on the maps provided to Assam by the then Congress government headed by none other than Mukul Sangma himself.

“The leader of the opposition is crying foul and alleging that our lands have been given to neighbouring Assam. But I want to put the facts out in the open and clarify that the agreement was done based on the report and maps provided by his (Mukul) government,” says the chief minister.

Conrad accused Mukul of inciting resentment with false reports solely with an eye on the upcoming elections to the state assembly.

Mukul Sangma has stated that if voted to power the Trinamool would revoke the border agreement.

Conrad Sangma accused the Mukul Sangma government of sitting on this contentious border issue for eight long years when they government the state.

“Now when something has been done to solve the border dispute, the opposition Trinamool is trying to reverse it. They should take it in a positive manner and be happy that a  solution to a very complicated problem like this has finally been found,” added Sangma.

Dismissing the claims of the opposition leader that his government did not follow the proper survey and revenue maps when making the agreement, Conrad Sangma reiterated that the agreement was based on the very maps provided by Mukul Sangma’s government.

“The very maps provided during his tenure as chief minister to the Assam government for the border agreement is now being disputed by Mukul Sangma himself. He is now demanding we should go back to the previous maps but isn’t that the same maps he provided? Is he not  negating his own work merely with an eye on elections?” asked chief minister Conrad K Sangma.
