Guwahati, Oct 14: Forest officials at Manas National Park and Tiger Reserve rescued an elephant calf that was trapped under a fallen tree in the Kuklung Range on Monday.
Upon receiving information about the incident, a team of foresters from the Kuklung Range immediately rushed to the spot and cut through the tree to free the struggling calf.
Sharing the news on Facebook, Assam Forest Minister Chandra Mohan Patowary lauded the team’s swift and compassionate response.
“Bravery in the wild at Manas National Park and Tiger Reserve — where courage meets compassion! Forest staff of Kuklung Range displayed exceptional courage and compassion by rescuing an elephant calf trapped under a fallen tree — a gentle reminder that coexistence is care in action,” the minister wrote.

A forest official said the calf was part of a herd moving through the area when it accidentally got trapped. “We received the alert and immediately sent a team to the site. The calf was rescued successfully by our brave foresters. It’s heartening to see it reunite with its herd,” he said.
Manas National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1985, is home to several rare and endangered species, including the Assam roofed turtle, hispid hare, golden langur, and pygmy hog.
