Imphal, Sept 23: In a significant development for the state of Manipur, the temporary suspension of mobile data services, which had been in effect since May 3, 2023, has been lifted. The decision comes after careful consideration of the evolving law and order situation in the state.
The suspension of mobile data services had initially been imposed based on a report submitted by the Director General of Police (DGP), Manipur, citing concerns about the volatile law and order situation. This suspension was subsequently extended multiple times, remaining in force until recently.

However, in a positive turn of events, the Director General of Police, Manipur, reported a notable decrease in incidents of violence and an overall improvement in the state’s law and order situation. This led to a request to relax the suspension of internet and mobile data services, which has now been granted.
As of September 23, 2023, all orders pertaining to the suspension of mobile data services under the Temporary Suspension of Telecom Services (Public Emergency or Public Safety) Rules, 2017, have been revoked. Mobile service providers have been directed to promptly restore MMS and mobile internet/data services in Manipur.
An order regarding the same was issued by T. Ranjit Singh, Commissioner (Home), Government of Manipur, on Saturday.
This decision marks a step toward normalcy and improved connectivity for the people of Manipur, allowing them to regain access to essential communication services.
