Guwahati, May 7: The 65th foundation day of the Border Roads Organisation (BRO) was observed today at BRO East Zonal Headquarters at Lankeswar on the city’s outskirts.

Addressing the occasion, BRO Eastern Zone Additional Director General (ADG) Praveen Kumar Hanuman Singh said, “Since its formation in 1960, the BRO has been building roads to India’s frontiers, including Pakistan, China, Bhutan and Myanmar so that our army can move vehicles in any terrain and any weather.”

“The BRO has earned a reputation for constructing roads, bridges, tunnels and helipads in the country as well as in Bhutan, Afghanistan and other countries,” the ADG said.

Currently, the BRO has expanded its activities in 19 states of the country.

ADG Singh said he would like to thank the engineers and all the force personnel for their service to the motherland by constructing roads, bridges, tunnels, helipads, etc., even below zero degrees Celsius using the latest technologies.

The Border Roads Organisation (BRO) was formed on May 7, 1960, to develop and maintain road networks in India’s border areas to support the armed forces and facilitate economic development. The BRO was formed in the wake of the 1962 India-China War, which exposed the inadequacy of border infrastructure.

Since its inception, BRO has been instrumental in constructing strategic roads, bridges, and tunnels in challenging terrains, often in hostile weather conditions, to ensure connectivity and enhance the country’s defence preparedness along its frontiers.
