Shillong, May 11: The Border Security Force in Meghalaya amidst COVID pandemic continues being watchful to curb smuggling and other unwanted activities on Indo-Bangla border. BSF once again foiled the attempt of smugglers to materialize their nefarious plan.

On 10th May 2021, BSF troops of 97 BN BSF deployed at Sonapur bridge, East Jaintia Hills district, Meghalaya, confiscated a truck, crammed with 22 cattle, after chasing it for a while. The seized cattle were meant for smuggle to Bangladesh through Umkiang/kuliang border area and found tethered and crammed in a cruel manner violating the act of prevention against cruelty to animals.

In an other such incident, 21 cattle were seized by troops of 30 Bn BSF from Nongkhen area of West Jaintia Hills district. The total seizure made was worth rupees more than 22 lac. The rising demand of cattle in Bangladesh is owing to the occasion of ‘Eid-Ul-Fitr’ in coming days.

U K Nayal, DIG PRO BSF said that BSF troops are vigilant and active against any anti national activity through the International Border taking all preventive measures against COVID-19 pandemic. In current situation, we need to be more vigilant and proactive as the smugglers and other Anti-National elements may try to get advantage of the situation in implementing their nefarious designs.
