This has been amazing week for Tura, its citizens and, more importantly, the over 3000 athletes who came together to make this first ever state games in garo Hills a resounding success.

Addressing the athletes, officials and the general public gathered at the venue, Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma announced that the next edition of the Meghalaya Games would be held in Jowai, West Jaintia Hills district.

The volleyball finals of the 5th Meghalaya Games came to an end in Tura on Saturday, with South West Khasi Hills District securing the gold in the women's category, and West Garo Hills District claiming the gold in the men's category.

Defying all odds, the dark horse Ri Bhoi District bagged Gold Medals for both U18 Men’s and Women’s Football in the 5th Meghalaya Games held at the P.A Sangma Football Stadium, Tura.

The boxing events were held at Don Bosco School, Tura from January 16 to 19, 2024.

East Khasi Hills continued their domination on the sports arena, across multiple disciplines at the 5th Meghalaya Games with most events coming to a close on Friday evening, and on the eve of the closing ceremony they remain the favourites to be crowd champions of the game.

The decision to advance the finals to Friday is due to logistical constraints, as the authorities will need to hand over the ground by 12 PM.

One was a volunteer for the ongoing Meghalaya games and the other two physical fitness enthusiasts pumping weights at a local gym in Tura, the trio of Raksil N Sangma, Chukam N Marak and John Tengsubat D Sangma had never imagined they would be standing at the victory podium displaying their medals in a sporting event they never participated in.

As the games progress to another day of sports, Meghalaya witnesses a skill set of untapped potential amongst the youth in the state.
