Kohima, July 18: The Centre’s interlocutor for Naga peace talks, A.K. Mishra held a joint meeting with representatives of Naga political groups in Dimapur, Nagaland, on Thursday to resolve the long-pending Naga issue.
Two factions of the Working Committee of the Naga National Political Groups (NNPGs)—one led by N. Kitovi Zhimomi and the other by Neokpao Konyak and Alezo Venuh—met with Mishra, who serves as Advisor to the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) on Northeast Affairs.
Mishra is also expected to hold meetings with representatives of the National Socialist Council of Nagaland (K) Niki group during his current visit.
Several rounds of talks have already been held to seek a political resolution, with the most recent meeting taking place in June.
Zhimomi, convenor of the Working Committee of NNPGs, told the media after the meeting that they had reiterated their demand for an early solution to the Naga political issue.
The Union government has been engaging in political negotiations with the NSCN-IM and other Naga groups since the signing of the ceasefire agreement in 1997, followed by the signing of the crucial Framework Agreement in 2015.
Parallel negotiations were also initiated with the Working Committee of NNPGs—an umbrella body of at least seven Naga factions—in 2017, culminating in the signing of the Agreed Position in November that year.
