Guwahati, Aug 23: The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), General Upendra Dwivedi, who is on a two-day visit to Manipur, called on Chief Minister N Biren Singh on Friday at Chief Minister’s official residence.
The visit of General Upendra Dwivedi to the state to take stocks of the situation at this juncture is being regarded as a crucial step in bringing peace and normalcy in the State.
The sources in the State Government confirmed that a productive meeting with General Upendra Dwivedi along with Lieutenant General RC Tiwari, General Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Lieutenant General Abhijit S Pendharkar, General Officer Commanding 3 Corps, and Major General Ravroop Singh, Inspector General Assam Rifles (South) was held at CM Secretariat on Friday evening.
Commenting on the crucial meeting, Chief Minister N Biren Singh said, “I deeply appreciate General Dwivedi’s visit to Manipur.”
“Deliberated on critical issues concerning the current situation of our state. We reaffirmed the cooperation between the state government and the security forever in effectively responding to the challenges we face, maintain peace and harmony in the state.”
This is the Army Chief’s first visit to the state since he assumed office as the 30th COAS from General Manoj Pande on June 30, 2024.
He is also expected to meet the senior Army ground commanders and the leaders of other security agencies in the state.
