Chingba Jimbe tops Meghalaya Civil Service Exam, attributes success to sacrifice

Must read

Tura, Jan 18: Sheer determination, relentless hard work, and a willingness to forgo life’s distractions have propelled Chingba Jimbe Ch Marak to the pinnacle of success. As this year’s Meghalaya Civil Services (MCS) topper, her inspiring journey demonstrate the power of perseverance and grit.

In a candid interview just hours after the MCS results were declared, Chingba shared the guiding principle that kept her moving forward. “Perseverance was my anchor. I stayed away from social life, confined myself to my books, and remained laser-focused on my goals. Success demands sacrifices, and I was ready to make them,” she said with a smile of quiet triumph.

Chingba hails from remote Dura Banda village under Chokpot block in South Garo Hills.

The youngest of five siblings, she credits her parents—both schoolteachers—for instilling in her the values of education and discipline. Her father, Semrongsing A. Sangma, and mother, Joshilline Ch. Marak stood as a pillars of support throughout her arduous journey.

Her path was marked by challenges that would have discouraged many. In 2022, she cleared the UPSC Civil Services Preliminary Exam but fell short of passing the Mains by just 37 marks.

Undeterred, she doubled down on her efforts, balancing her job as a Lower Division Assistant at the state Secretariat with her MCS exam preparations.

“I started preparing for civil services back in 2018 and took the UPSC exam six times. Every attempt taught me something new. Facing these trials sharpened my resolve and equipped me to handle the rigorous interview process,” Chingba revealed.

Her commitment to excellence paid off. Not only did she clear the MCS exams, but she also aimed high, determined to secure a spot in the top five—a goal she surpassed with flying colours.

During the personal interview, Chingba impressed the panel with her measured and thoughtful responses. When asked how she would handle conflicts in a hostile environment, she emphasized stabilizing the situation and upholding the rule of law as priorities. “Dialogue is key. Reaching out to aggrieved groups and individuals is essential for resolving disputes amicably,” she explained, showcasing the leadership qualities that now define her.

After completing her matriculation as a top 15 SSLC state ranker in 2013, she pursued higher studies from Roorkee in Uttarakhand to Sharda University in Noida.

After completing her post graduate studies, she taught at Riverside Academy Adventist School in Bajengdoba, North Garo Hills.

Reflecting on her achievements, Chingba attributed her success to her resolve and the lessons learned from every setback. “These exams weren’t just tests of knowledge—they were tests of character,” she said.
