Imphal, Feb 16: At least 42 people sustained bullet injuries, scores others sustained injuries from rubber bullet and baton charge of the central paramilitary security forces during last night protest in and around the Lamka in Churachandpur police SPs office.
The protest was over the suspension of one Lamka (Churachandpur) police gear constable Siamlalpaul.
During the protest, two people namely Letlalkhuol Gangte s/o Kamkhomang Gangte of Nalon Village and Thanggunlen Haokip S/o Seilal Haokip from S Canan veng died due to gunshot.
The first person reportedly died at the spot of protest while the second person was declared dead by doctors after he was rushed to the district hospital.
Two other namely H Lamginmang, 37, of Boljol and Henminlun, 35, B. Phaicham localities were critically injured due to gun shots and are undergoing treatments at the ICU / Lamka (Churachandpur) district hospital.
At present, the situations in the town areas is peaceful.
The protestors have damaged government properties DC and SP offices during the peak hours of protest from 10 pm to 12:30 am, as well as torched the DCs official residence at around 1 am.
Tension continues to prevail, shut down has been imposed in the town areas by the Indigenous Tribal Leaders Forum ( ITLF). The bodies of the deceased are still lying at the district hospitals morgue while the injured are undergoing treatment.
The central paramilitary forces and the Assam Rifles were seen taking out a flag March in the streets of Tedim road and other areas of the town.
