Imphal, (Waari Singbul Network) Jan 22: In a new twist to the ongoing conflict gripping the state, Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) president and senior party MLA, K Meghachandra Singh said chief minister N Biren Singh disclosed that Article 355 of the Indian Constitution has been imposed in the state.
The provision of the Constitution empowers duty of the Union government to protect states against external aggression and internal disturbance.
Meghachandra, who won from Wangkhem seat in Thoubal district, narrated the gist of the all party meeting headed by the CM at his office complex here on Sunday evening.
“In today’s meeting, honourable chief minister disclosed that Article 355 has been imposed in Manipur which is very unfortunate on the ground that the matter had been kept under sheer confusion to all for quite a long time,” the Congress leaders told reporters at the gate of the CM.
“It is very unfortunate that the honourable CM revealed the matter today,” Meghachandra said, adding that this has manifested the insincerity of both the Centre and the state government.
It is learnt that representatives of other parties- JD(U), AAP, CPI (M), Forward Bloc, JD(U), NCP, RSP, Shiv Sena (UBT) and AITC- also attended the crucial meeting.
