Shillong, May 2: Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma on Saturday visited Madanriting and attended a community programme organised by the Dorbar Shnong at St Peter’s Secondary School, where he inaugurated an ambulance and a mortuary van for the locality.

The event was attended by Lambor Malniang, former Rajya Sabha MP Wansuk Syiem, along with local leaders, residents, students, and teachers.

During the programme, meritorious students, COVID-19 frontline workers, police personnel, sanitation workers, ASHA workers, sportspersons, and senior citizens were felicitated for their contributions.

Addressing the gathering, the Chief Minister lauded the Dorbar Shnong for its community initiatives, particularly for arranging essential services like the ambulance and mortuary van. He said such facilities would ensure timely medical transport and dignified handling of the deceased, while also highlighting the importance of recognising contributions across all sections of society.

Responding to a memorandum submitted by the Dorbar Shnong, Sangma announced a series of development measures for the locality. These include improvement and renovation of the Madanriting playground, construction of a retaining wall for the community hall, and installation of street lights and CCTV cameras under the government’s My City Campaign. He also assured that other demands would be examined.

The Chief Minister further announced financial assistance of ₹2 lakh from the Chief Minister’s Special Grant to participating schools to support cultural and musical activities.

Officials said the visit underscores the government’s focus on strengthening community infrastructure and supporting grassroots initiatives in urban localities.
