Kohima, July 17: A decades-old community dream took a major step forward on Friday with the inauguration of a new Government Primary School building at Kewhitsütuo Model, a project funded entirely by the T. Khel Council as part of its vision to make education the cornerstone of the settlement’s future.
School Education Advisor Dr. Kekhrielhoulie Yhome inaugurated the building, while Kohima Municipal Council Chairman Neibodzelie Solo attended as the guest of honour. The programme also saw the flagging off of a sanitation vehicle funded by the Tsütuonuomia Khel Council.
Describing the occasion as a landmark in the community’s history, T. Khel Council Chairman K. Neibou Sekhose said the school represented more than just a new building.

“Villages were once protected with spears; today they are protected through education. Building a school is not an expense; it is security,” he said, adding that the new facility was an investment that would serve future generations for at least the next 50 years.
Sekhose said the project fulfilled a vision first conceived by community leaders in the late 1970s after land was earmarked for developing Kewhitsütuo Model as a planned settlement when much of the community’s prime land was acquired for the expansion of Kohima.
He said the school was built entirely from community resources, underscoring the commitment of the T. Khel Council to strengthening public education. He also announced that the community has already begun planning for a Higher Secondary School in the area and expressed hope for support from the School Education Department.

The sanitation vehicle launched during the programme is expected to serve more than 800 families, reflecting the community’s parallel focus on civic infrastructure and cleanliness.
The inauguration ceremony included the unveiling of a commemorative monolith, cultural performances by students, and addresses by community leaders and dignitaries, marking what residents described as a significant milestone in Kewhitsütuo Model’s journey towards becoming a model township centred on education and community-led development.
