Shillong, Feb 7: National People’s Party (NPP) National President and Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma on Monday said that the opposition Congress MDC from Malki-Laitumkhrah Fantin Joseph Lakadong has expressed his willingness to join NPP but further discussions are yet to take place.
“So we will see when the time comes. I’ll be able to inform when the time is right,” Sangma told reporters.
Lakadong, who is the husband of East Shillong MLA and CLP leader Ampareen Lyngdoh, had announced his decision to quit the Congress and very soon would officially join the NPP.
Sangma also did not deny speculations that Lyngdoh would also be joining his party ahead of the 2023 Assembly polls.
He responded to a query by saying “Ampareen and us have always been talking and she has been somebody who has been very keen and interested in the overall development of the state.”
