Shillong, Sept 8: BJP national council member Bashailang Khongwir on Wednesday said if the Congress MLAs are desperate for power, they can join the BJP.
Taking a pot shot at the newly appointed Meghalaya Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) chief, Vincent H. Pala, Khongwir said the Congress can never come back to power in Meghalaya due to the internal division in Congress, especially after Pala’s appointment as State Congress chief.
“Media houses have highlighted Mukul, Charles and Pala camps which clearly indicate the internal divisions,” he said.
Stating that the Congress despite having 29 legislators still could not form the government in Manipur, Khongwir said, “Then what chance do they have in Meghalaya? The BJP will ensure no Congress government is formed in Meghalaya.”
Move to remove Metbah as Speaker
Khongwir also slammed the Congress for its decision to move a resolution seeking the removal of the Assembly Speaker Metbah Lyngdoh.
“Last session they wanted to move no confidence motion and this session they want the removal of the Speaker,” the BJP leader said even as he predicted that in the next session “we might see exodus of the Congress MLAs from the party.”
Congress responsible for financial crisis in Meghalaya
He further accused Congress of being responsible for the financial mess in Meghalaya. He said the MDA government is now clearing the financial mess left behind by the previous Congress government.
“Despite two years of COVID crisis, the MDA government has made considerable financial corrections and is dealing ably with the financial crunch deepened further by the global pandemic. The NDA led by BJP, at the Centre has provided a much needed boost and financial support to Meghalaya. People understand that with Congress at helm of affairs, they are bound to suffer,” he said.
