Conrad slams HYC protest at NEIGRIHMS, calls disruption of hospital operations “unacceptable”

Must read

Shillong, April 8: Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma on Tuesday termed the recent protest at the North Eastern Indira Gandhi Regional Institute of Health & Medical Sciences (NEIGRIHMS) as unacceptable and assured that necessary legal action will be taken against those involved in disrupting the functioning of the hospital.

Speaking to reporters, Sangma said, “My take (on the recent protest) is very simple. One even during times of war there is always an unwritten quote that the armed forces of any country never attack the hospitals. I am very disappointed to see that the operations of a hospital were kind of interfered with. Whatever the reason may be and at the end of the day if you do something like that it is the people and the patient who suffer and from a humanitarian point of view this is something very unacceptable. I am very clear on that.”

“There can be issues, there can be differences but there are ways to resolve it,” he stated.

The HYC recently staged a protest and closed down the office of the Director of NEIGRIHMS against the alleged failure of the institute to resolve issues related to job recruitment.

“Whether it is a state government or a central government or whether it is the concern instituted has never shied away for any kind of discussion to be done on any issue and we have proved it and shown it in the past also and we will continue to engage in the future but to intervene and to kind of disturb the functioning of a hospital has not been done in the past,” the CM said.

“As I said I don’t agree with and accordingly the police has taken note of it from a law and order point of view the case has been registered and the police is taking steps as per law and as per proof that is there and we will take necessary action on that,” he assured adding “As I said we have never stop any discussion or any issue, I am not saying the issue raised is not important or important but that does not justify interfering into the operations of a hospital and if there are concerns, there are other ways to discuss it but stopping the operations of a hospital is not one of them.”
