Shillong, Aug 08: Masked miscreants set ablaze two vehicles of the Nongstoin-Wahkaji road construction in the wee hours of Monday morning in West Khasi Hills district.
The Project Manager of the Nongstoin-Wahkaji road construction company reported that at approximately 1:30 AM, the campsite of the construction company at Mawthungkper Village was attacked by three unknown individuals wearing masks, police said.
At approximately 1:30 AM, the miscreants stealthily entered the construction camp, where they deliberately set fire to the Dumper truck and the Transit Mixer. As the flames engulfed the vehicles, the driver, who was resting inside the Dumper truck, sensed the heat emanating from beneath the vehicle. Reacting swiftly, he awakened from his slumber and managed to push open the vehicle’s door, ensuring his escape from the rapidly spreading fire.
As he pushed open the vehicle door to save himself, in the process he also slammed one of the masked suspects who was standing outside the truck. However, the driver could not discern the suspect’s identity as their face remained concealed behind the mask.
Police have registered a case and launched an investigation into the matter.
