Cops blamed for attack on girl in Tura, police investigate to check if its true

Tura, Sept 14: Tura police is investigating an assault incident that occured on Wednesday night in which they have been blamed for an attack on a woman who sustained a head injury.

The allegation is that the 20 year old girl, studying in Class 11, was hit on the head with a beer bottle by three police personnel who came across her with a friend in Bollonggre area around 11 PM.

West Garo Hills SP Abraham T Sangma has informed that police are investigating to verify the claims after pictures surfaced on social media accusing the force of highhandedness.

He also clarified that there was no raid in a place named as Bollonggre on Wednesday.

“Our night patrol party comprising of police and home guard personnel during routine checking went to the Tura municipal dumping ground site that leads to the Tura cemetery. There they found a large group of young boys and girls drinking in the open very late at night. They were made to disburse from the place,” says SP Abraham Sangma.

He added that no report of assault had been made until the allegations surfaced on social media.

“Since an allegation has been levelled on the force we are investigating to find the truth. If indeed it is found to be true, then departmental enquiry will be initiated against any accused personnel,” assured the district police chief.

The girl in question, who is pictured with a bloodied face and a deep gash on her head, has been identified and taken to Tura civil hospital for a medical test.

Police will be taking the girl’s statement.

The road leading down from the municipal dump site to the cemetery has been notorious for rave parties by youngsters for a long time.

Taking advantage of the isolation of the area groups of boys and girls regularly descend to the site for drinking and dating leaving behind huge piles of empty liquor bottles and creating a nuisance for locality residents.
