Shillong , March 30: The Coordination and Welfare Committee (CWC) of Shella-Bholaganj block has alleged that the Khasi Students’ Union (KSU) was involved in the murder of two non-tribals on Wednesday.

The CWC-SB was formed on November 2020 to help restore peace and harmony among the various communities of Shella-Bholaganj area in particular and state in general.

However, in a letter signed by Gopal Dey the president of CWC addressing to Chief Minister, Conrad K Sangma, has alleged that the two non tribals identified as Ishan Singh and Sujit Dutta were ‘murdered in cold blood by miscreants of Khasi Students Union (KSU) following an Anti-CAA protest held in Ichamati.

The CWC has urged that if the state police fail to make progress within a week, central investigative agencies like the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) or National Investigation Agency (NIA) should be allowed to investigate the deaths of the non-tribal Hindus.

The CWC raised concerns on how the police and district administration permitted rally even after Model Code of Conduct is in place.

Additionally, the CWC president highlighted the challenges faced by non-tribals due to laws that favor tribes, restricting their economic opportunities and freedoms. “I the state Govt only a government of a particular community? Where was the police when groups of Meghalaya majority Community KSU members in vehicles arrived at Ichamati and made unprovoked attacks on non-tribal minority communities resulting in vandalism and killing of one poor Bengali and one Adivashi”, said the letter of the CWC.

To safeguard non-tribal residents of Ichamati, the CWC urged the state government to set up permanent security outpost for CRPF/ Any Para-military camp in sensitive areas like Bholaganj and Ichamati.

The CWC urging the state government to ensure justice and compensation for the two deceased families.

It is worth noting that the deaths of Ishan Singh and Sujit Dutta occurred almost exactly four years after the anti-CAA rally that resulted in the death of Khasi Students Union (KSU) member Lurshai Hynniewta in Ichamati.

The letter was also sent copy to Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister, Amit Shah and Meghalaya Governor, Phagu Chauhan.
