Dibrugarh, May 16: Despite improvement of road connectivity in the hill state of Arunachal Pradesh, which shares a long boundary with China and with Myanmar and Bhutan, there are several areas where proper road communication is still a distant dream. The non-existence of good roads had not only made the lives of the local villagers hard but also had become a stumbling block in the implementation of government sponsored welfare schemes.
Shi Yomi district in Arunachal Pradesh is one such district where there are several areas close to the Indo-China border where development is only a beautiful word. Determined to ‘walk the extra mile’ in order to ensure that the government schemes reach the extreme points of the state, Liyi Bagra, the Deputy Commissioner of the district, undertook a risky and arduous journey to reach Komte village to monitor the implementation of the highly ambitious ‘Sewa Aapke Dwar’ programme, which is a unique initiative of the Pema Khandu led Arunachal Pradesh government to bridge the gap between the government and the people.
The DC and his team, after crossing the Yomi River, travelled in a JCB Bucket for 14 km on a kutcha topsy-turvy road. The journey was risky and tough as the JCB had to climb up and down while negotiating through the road. Later, the DC assured the people that the road would soon be constructed properly through the centrally sponsored PMGSY scheme. Apart from Komte village, people from Pangri, Geching, and Pongte village too rely upon the road for communication with the outer world. The DC also inspected the ongoing construction work of a mobile tower in the village. Bagra and his officials were accorded a warm welcome by the villagers on reaching the village.
