AMINGAON, May 30: Kamrup district commissioner Deva Kumar Mishra on Friday asked for concerted efforts of everybody to make a tobacco free society. He appealed to the young generation to stay away from tobacco andother harmful addictive substances.
Addressing to the gathering at a ‘World No Tobacco Day’ awareness programme at Damdama college, Hajo, the DC informed that usage of tobacco is hazardous to individual health, the health of the family and for the entire community. “Our DC’s office has already been declared a No Tobacco Zone and to control the issue, everybody from educational institutions to all other public places must co-operate with citizens”, he added.

Organized by district tobacco control cell and district health society, kamrup, experts spoke to the attendees about different type of tobacco related cancer, the tobacco act and facilities provided for those seeking help to quit it. Health experts from BBCI, AIIMS, Guwahati and National Tobacco control programme informed about the increase of health hazards and different tobacco-related problems, especially in the Northeast part of India, and how important are awareness.
Attendees took an Anti Tobacco Pledge to remain tobacco-free and motivate others to quit usage. The programme also conducted a session of road safety awareness.
