Must read

Shillong, Nov 24: Minister in-charge Social Welfare Kyrmen Shylla on Wednesday said the delay to appoint the chairperson of the Meghalaya State Women’s Commission (MSWC) was due to many programmes and tours of the Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma.

“Due to so many programmes and tours of CM, we could not complete it,” Shylla told reporters.

The minister also said that he cannot say as to when the appointment will be made since the chief minister is not in the state as of now.

“Whenever he (CM) is free, he will try to do it as early as possible,” he added.

He also informed that the department is waiting for the final names to come out for appointment of the chairperson. He informed that as of now works related to the commission are being looked after by the officers from the department.

Regarding the status of the inquiry into the alleged rice scam, the minister said he is not aware whether the probe has started or not.

“There were some issues with the judge, he has got some demands. Whether the government has agreed with his requests, I really don’t know as the matter is lying with the government. We from the department are just waiting for the report,” he said.
