Tura, Nov 10: The District Football Association (DFA), Tura, has launched a referee training programme to strengthen officiating standards and promote grassroots football development in the region.

The training, which began this morning, includes both practical and theory sessions.

The practical sessions are held from 7:00 a.m. to 8:30 a.m at P.A. Sangma Stadium, while the theory sessions take place from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. and again from 2:30 p.m. to 4:00 p.m at the SMELC Building.

The programme is led by experienced instructors — Joy Ch. Singh, ZRDO, and Ricky M. Synnah, who serves as the Head of Referees (HOR) in the State Association.

Originally planned for referees from West Garo Hills, the training was later opened to other districts after additional seats became available.

A total of 24 participants, including two female referees, are currently taking part in the course.

According to the DFA, the initiative aims to prepare qualified referees to officiate at various levels of competition and to encourage wider participation in football development across the Garo Hills.
