Tura, Nov 10: The 7th Edition of the Turathon Hill Challenge 2025, held under the theme “Miles on Hills,” concluded on Sunday along the Jengjal–Bolbokgre stretch on Tura–Williamnagar highway.

Organised by the Tura Runners’ Club, the event witnessed a see of participation, with around 2,000 runners registering across the 42.2 km full marathon, 21.1 km half marathon, 10 km and 5 km fun run categories.
The event was sponsored by the Department of Sports and Youth Affairs, Government of Meghalaya, as part of the nationwide FIT India movement.
Turathon remains the only long-distance running event in Meghalaya that offers a full 42.2 km marathon. Since its inception in 2015, the race has steadily grown in scale and popularity, previously attracting professional runners from Kenya, Ethiopia and Nigeria for its scenic, pristine and gently undulating rural route.

This year too, the challenge drew energetic participation from across Meghalaya, with notable representation from Jaintia Hills who made a strong mark in both the 42.2 km and 21.1 km categories. Runners from Assam and several parts of Khasi Hills also joined in large numbers.
In the 42.2 km full marathon (men), Tlanding Wahlang emerged champion, followed by Donboklang Shangoi and Lapynkraw Tabah. In the women’s marathon, Intromeda R. Marak claimed first place, with Martha D. Sangma and Krenitha Ch. Marak securing second and third spots respectively.

The 21.1 km half marathon (men) was won by Daioohimitre Suting with a timing of 1:13:58, while Teiborlang Biam and Macmilan B. Marak followed in second and third. In the women’s half marathon, Archana K. Marak finished first with a time of 1:54:37, ahead of Nangkiewsuki Slong and Fathima Ch. Marak.
In the 10 km category, Marshal Wanniang topped the men’s race, with Siemiki Kyndait and Bonash K. Sangma finishing behind him. On the women’s side, Raksilchi A. Marak claimed first place, followed by Sengjimchi Sangma and Ritmesa N. Marak. The 5 km race saw Laichang T. Sangma, Dev Hajong and Tubebirth Ch. Sangma finish in the top three among the men, while Carnida Liana Ch. Momir, Nopanchi A. Sangma and Tulsi G. Momin emerged as the first three finishers among the women.
Consolation recognitions across marathon and half marathon categories were also presented to acknowledge their participation.
Organisers expressed gratitude to local communities, volunteers and the administration for their support in ensuring smooth conduct of the event. They noted that Turathon continues to champion health, fitness and outdoor culture, while also shining a spotlight on the natural beauty and vibrant spirit of the Garo Hills.
