Tura April 16: With the upcoming Lok Sabha elections District Magistrates of South West Garo Hills and East Garo Hills, have promulgated Section 144 of the Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC), with effect from 4:00 PM on April 17.
The order prohibits public meetings and processions related to election, restricts presence of non-constituency political functionaries, imposes accommodation restrictions, bans the use of loudspeakers 48 hours before polling closes, and prohibits exit polls and the publication of opinion poll results within 48 hours of polling.
The orders exempt certain election officials and personnel on election duty from restrictions. These measures aim to maintain law and order and ensure the integrity and smooth electoral process in Garo Hills.
