Imphal, June 14: In a shocking CCTV footage that has surfaced online, members of the Rapid Action Force (RAF) are seen vandalising vehicles parked alongside Trans-Asian Highway at around 2.20 am on Tuesday in Manipur.
According to the CCTV footage, several RAF personnel can be seen using stones and canes to damage as many as 12 four-wheelers parked along the western side of the road, while also shattering windows of houses in Yaiskul Yumnam Leikai, Imphal West.
The owner of the workshop claimed that the RAF personnel vandalised two vehicles, including one that was being repaired, during the incident.
Another angle of the footage revealed some RAF personnel firing tear gas rounds on the deserted street before rushing into a nearby workshop.
The residents of the area have expressed deep concern over the action of the RAF personnel, as they are entrusted with the duty of safeguarding people and their properties, yet their behaviour, as captured in the CCTV footage, is in complete contrast to their responsibility.
The residents have demanded that legal action be taken against the RAF personnel in accordance with the law.
In response to the incident, two RAF personnel have been placed under suspension with immediate effect with a departmental enquiry contemplated against the two.
They had been identified as M M Hossain and Arun Kumar Swain.
An official order from RAF stated: “Whereas an inquiry against Force No. 903082686 SI/GD M M Hossain and NO. 041552621 HC/GD Arun Kumar Swain of B/106 Bn, RAF is being contemplated”.
