East Garo Hills Police warn public against hiding a murder accused

Tura, July 25: The East Garo Hills Police have issued a stern warning to the public against harbouring or concealing James R. Sangma, the prime accused in the gruesome murder case that occurred at Samgong, Williamnagar on July 18.

In an official press release, the police stated that certain individuals may be hiding the whereabouts of the wanted man, who is named in Williamnagar Women Police Station Case No. 13/2025 under Section 103 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023.

The department reminded the public that harbouring or shielding a wanted person is a serious offence under Section 249 of the BNS, punishable with imprisonment of up to five years.

“Anyone who knowingly helps or protects the accused to evade arrest will face strict legal action,” the release stated.

The police have urged anyone with information on the accused’s location to immediately contact the office of the Superintendent of Police, any nearby police station, outpost, or the nearest police unit or officer without delay.
