Explained: Confusion in budget of Garo Hills’ first artificial turf

Must read

Shillong, Feb 28: The difference in budget figures reported by media houses and the CM’s twitter handle for Garo Hills’ first artificial turf football ground at Chandmary in Tura has created a bit of confusion among the people. A lot of people have taken to social media to express their confusion and want the numbers explained, and some are even calling it ‘controversy’.

The reason for the confusion stemmed out from Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma’s twitter handle putting the budget for the artificial turf at Rs. 8.10 crores while the government’s information and public relations press statement put the budget at Rs. 5.4 crore.

Although the press statement further mentions about other budgetary provisions to the tune of over Rs. 3 crores being sanctioned by the government for the construction of galleries and other amenities, this figure has been entirely missed by the readers and most haven’t been able to relate the numbers.

To sum it up, Rs. 8.10 crores is indeed the overall cost of the artificial turf along with other amenities that ‘will come up’, but the cost of artificial turf alone is Rs. 5.4 crore. The additional Rs. 3 crore plus is being used for developing more facilities around the turf.
