Agartala, May 20: In a major crackdown against drugs, police has arrested five drug peddlers and seized brown sugar during two separate raids near educational institutions in Agartala.
The drug peddlers have been identified as- Tannakar Chowdhury, Ajay Pal, Arjun Sarkar, Piyush Sarkar, and Abhijit Saha.
Police seized 14 grams of brown sugar estimated cost Rs 70,000.
Additionally, police confiscated two motorcycles, Rs 25,000 in cash, and five mobile phones, all suspected to be linked to the drug trade.
Talking to reporters, Inspector of East Agartala police station Sanjit Sen said, “After getting tip off, we launched an operation in the Gandhi School area and arrested three drug peddlers including the main drug kingpin Tannakar Chowdhury,”.
“Interrogation of the initial detainees led police to a second raid at the Women’s College premises, where two more suspects were apprehended,” he said.
A case has been registered under the NDPS Act against the suspects.
