Shillong, Feb 8: With the decision of the Meghalaya Joint Action Committee of Commercial Vehicles (MJACCV) to call for an indefinite strike from Wednesday. The Federation of Khasi Jaintia and Garo People (FKJGP) has urged the state government to call the agitating local taxi association for talks and resolve their grievances at the earliest.
In a press communiqué issued here, the organization has warned of action if the state government remains a mute spectator. It may be mentioned that the local taxis were not seen in and around.
The MJACCV wanted the government to cut the taxes by 50 percent asserting that they are burdened by the taxes considering they could not get any business during the lockdown period, the association also want the fares to be hiked arguing that prices of essential commodities are also rising.
The organization has expressed concern about the government’s apathy towards the agitation called by the local taxi association. The organization said that the strike called by the local taxis has affected the school students and teachers, labourers, farmers etc.
The organization also observed that prices of essential commodities are also affected when the price of petrol and diesel rise.
