Shillong, July 2: Food Safety officials in the state of Karnataka have collected over 260 pani puri samples, most of which did not meet safety standards.
The officials reported that artificial colours and carcinogenic agents, which can cause cancer, were found in the samples collected.
Out of the 260 samples, only 18 were deemed fit for human consumption, according to the officials.
The Food Safety Department also discovered chemicals such as brilliant blue, sunset yellow, and tartrazine in the pani puri samples, which can potentially cause various health issues.
The Food Safety and Standards Authority (FSSA) has taken action against the implicated establishments to ensure public health safety.
Not only pani puri, but even roadside shawarma is under scrutiny, as samples collected were found to contain unhygienic and harmful bacteria and yeast.
