According to the health minister Ampareen Lyngdoh, the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) data revealed that the state has as many as 176 cancer cases per one lakh population.
"This rise in cancer cases is deeply concerning. The government is taking urgent steps to combat this crisis by ensuring that people get diagnosed early and have access to affordable treatment," Health Minister Ampareen Lyngdoh said on World Cancer Day.
On World Cancer Day, the Tura Civil Hospital held an awareness programme to educate the people on prevention, detection and treatment of the deadly disease.
