Boko, Aug 27: In a swift operation, the West Kamrup Forest Division on Tuesday seized a vehicle carrying illegally transported teak wood worth around ₹2 lakh, following a chase from Shantipur area of Boko to Batakuchi village.
The operation, led by Bamunigaon Range Officer Aminul Islam, saw forest officials pursue the vehicle across several locations before the driver abandoned it near a roadside gorge and fled. The vehicle (AS 01 LC 9523) was later found loaded with cut teak pieces, suspected to have been smuggled from nearby forests.
Range Officer Islam said the department is maintaining strict vigilance against timber smuggling and will continue to crack down on such activities.
Officials described the seizure as a significant step in efforts to curb illegal logging and safeguard forest resources in the region.
