Guwahati, Aug 27: A high-level review meeting chaired by Assam Sports and Youth Welfare Minister Nandita Gorlosa was held on Tuesday in Guwahati to assess preparations for upcoming international cricket fixtures in the city.

The meeting was attended by BCCI Secretary Devajit Saikia, officials of the Assam Cricket Association (ACA), the Special Secretary (Sports), and senior representatives from all stakeholder departments.

For the first time, Guwahati has been designated as a key venue for the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup, to be co-hosted by India and Sri Lanka. The ACA Barsapara Cricket Stadium will stage four matches—on September 30 and October 3, 7 and 10, 2025—including the tournament’s Opening Ceremony and the India–Sri Lanka opener, under the aegis of the International Cricket Council (ICC).

All matches will be 50-over day-night games, scheduled from 3:30 p.m. to 11:30 p.m. One of the semifinals may also be allocated either to Guwahati or Colombo on October 29, 2025.

Guwahati is also set to host the 2nd Test between India and South Africa from November 22–28, 2025, as well as a T20 league match in early 2025.

The meeting directed all PWD wings to assess infrastructure needs at the venues, while the Traffic Police and PWD will deploy dedicated teams for event logistics. Departments have been tasked with preparing detailed execution plans to ensure world-class facilities and seamless conduct of the events.

Officials said these landmark fixtures will showcase Guwahati on the international cricket map and highlight Assam’s readiness to deliver top-class sporting infrastructure and experiences.
