Shillong Mar 14: Rowell Lyngdoh, the former Deputy Chief Minister of Meghalaya, passed away on Sunday due to heart complications, leaving behind his wife Milicent Saiborne and four children. He was 85.
Rowell Lyngdoh won the MLA elections 6 times from Mawkyrwat and was amongst the legislators who got elected as members of the first Meghalaya Legislative Assembly in 1972. Lyngdoh was also elected as the MDC to the KHADC once.
Lyngdoh left the Indian National Congress (INC) to join the National People’s Party (NPP) before the 2018 MLA Assembly Polls.
His funeral service will be held at Laitumkhrah Presbyterian church cemetery in Lawjynriew on Tuesday at 1pm.
Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma condoled the death of Late Rowell Lyngdoh and tweeted, “Deeply saddened by the demise of veteran statesman and former Deputy Chief Minister, Shri Rowell Lyngdoh. As a senior member of our party, Bah Rowell made rich contributions to our growth through his counsel & guidance. May his soul rest in eternal peace.”
