Four arrested for theft from tourist vehicle in Mawblei; Stolen items recovered

Shillong, June 23: East Khasi Hills Police have arrested four individuals in connection with the theft from a tourist vehicle parked near the Mahindra showroom in Mawblei on Sunday evening.

According to SP Vivek Syiem, the incident occurred around 8 PM when Jay Nand Kishore Joshi, his family and a newlywed couple from Mumbai parked their Innova and went for dinner nearby. When they returned, they discovered the car window had been smashed and their luggage, including ₹50,000 in cash and an iPhone 13, had been stolen.

A case was registered at Madanrting Police Station, and by Monday evening, a special police team apprehended four suspects from Mawblei Block B. All stolen items were recovered.

The arrested individuals have been identified as Chaphrang Nangkiew Sutnga (24) of Mawblei, Wanjop Kharumnuid (23) of Laitkor Nonglum, Albertstar Kharhujon (22) of Umphyrnai, and Michael Nongrum (45) of Demthring Block A.

Police said the investigation is still ongoing.
