Tura, May 21: A four-day teacher training workshop is being held at the BAKDIL Training Centre in Tura as part of the PM SHRI (Prime Minister’s Schools for Rising India) initiative and Samagra Shiksha Meghalaya.

The workshop focuses on enhancing the skills of upper primary and secondary school teachers through modules on Competency-Based Teaching (CBT), the Learning Enhancement Program (LEP), and modern assessment strategies, in line with the objectives of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020.

Over 60 teachers from government schools selected under the PM SHRI model school network are participating. These schools are among the 14,500 PM SHRI institutions across India, with 56 in Meghalaya, including two in the Garo Hills region.

Designed to be interactive and hands-on, the sessions aim to strengthen classroom practices, lesson planning, and integration of 21st-century skills. Teachers are encouraged to adopt student-centered approaches and innovative techniques to boost learning outcomes.

Dr. Lata RamMohan, one of the resource persons for the training, told Hub News, “Each child should be, you know, well versed with whatever has been imparted to them. So for that, we think the quality always starts with the teacher, and the teacher’s role is pivotal. So we are here doing the capacity building of teachers on various aspects.”

The PM SHRI initiative envisions transforming selected schools into models of holistic and high-quality learning. It also mandates 50 hours of annual professional development for every teacher, highlighting the value of continuous upskilling.

Similar capacity-building workshops have already been conducted in Shillong, with more planned across other districts, including leadership training for school heads to support better planning and management.
