Tura, April 9: Taitus Ch. Marak, a mountain biker from Bajengdoba in North Garo Hills, is set to compete in the Asia Enduro Series in Sri Lanka from May 1 to 4.

The 26-year-old, currently in his final year of LLB at Shillong Law College, has come a long way in a short span of time. Though he grew up loving cycling, but it was until 2018 that he discovered the world of professional mountain biking. However, in 2019 he started competing in the high-adrenaline sport of Enduro and Downhill Mountain Biking (MTB).

Taitus grabbed his first major win in 2022, clinching the top spot at the Shirui Lily Festival MTB Challenge in Manipur.

But it was in 2023 that he truly made his mark—securing 8th place at the Asian Mountain Bike Championships held at Ponmudi Hills, Kerala. According to him the win is his biggest achievement so far, as he became one of the few Indian riders to finish in the top 10 at such a level.

He followed it up with another great run in 2024, finishing 4th overall in the Asia Enduro Series. The competition featured five rounds across Sri Lanka, Taiwan, Korea, India and Nepal.

Despite financial challenges, Taitus managed to attend only three of those rounds—Sri Lanka, Tawang and Nepal; yet still finished among the top five.

Beyond racing, Taitus is passionate about growing the sport. Whether it is in mentoring young riders, participating in charity events, or simply sharing his journey.

This year, Taitus has his sights set not just on the upcoming Asia Enduro Series round in Sri Lanka, but also on a possible racing and training trip to Europe. He is currently awaiting sponsorship from cycling brands to compete in the UCI Enduro World Cup to be held in Italy in June and July.
