Shillong, Feb 19: The Returning Officer (RO) of Umroi has issued show cause notices to TMC candidate from Umroi George B Lyngdoh and election agent C Longmanbha Masharing for violating the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) by holding meetings in two locations without authorization.

A notice by the RO of Umroi Constituency said Lyngdoh and Masharing held public meeting on February 17, 2023 at Umket village at 10:00 a.m. without permission

In a similar case, Lyngdoh and Masharing were presented with a notice for having a similar meeting after 10 p.m. without authorization at Umsarang village, adding that a loud PA system was used after the permissible time of 10 p.m.

“This amounts to violation of Model Code of Conduct, provision of Representation of Peoples Act 1951 and guidelines,” read the notice.

Lyngdoh and Masharing have been requested to submit their responses to the RO by February 20 at 11 a.m., or it will be assumed that they have nothing to say on the issue.
