Two teenage girls killed in road mishap at Mawkhumkha village

Nongstoiñ, Feb 19: In an unfortunate turn of events, two teenage girls died on the spot after the vehicle they were travelling in overturned while on its way to a church service at Mawkhumkha Church, West Khasi Hills on Sunday morning.

The two deceased have been identified as Dearly Daffudil Rashir (18 yrs), daughter of Crissword Riangterm, and Sonamika Ryntong (17 yrs), daughter of Saiamon Ryntong, both from umdang village.

They were part of a choir group and were on their way to a Presbytery service at Ri Lyngam Presbytery under Mawkumkha Church, Mawshynrut Civil Sub Division.

Reportedly, the vehicle (Bolero Pickup), bearing the registration number ML 07 B 9110, driven by Shempatkupar Mawsor of Umdong village was carrying 34 choir members. On reaching at Mawkhumkha village, the Bolero pickup turned turtle where the two succumbed to their injuries on the spot.

The injured were taken to Civil Hospital Nongstoin and some were shifted to Shillong for further treatment.

In addition, inquest and other formalities have been observed and the relatives of the deceased persons have approached the competent authority for exemption of post-mortem examination. In connection with the incident, further necessary action will be taken accordingly.
