Tura, November 3: The Diocese of Tura celebrated its Golden Jubilee with grandeur and devotion, as the inaugural program and Mass took place at the Sacred Heart Shrine Tura. The Most Rev. Andrew R. Marak, Bishop of Tura, presided over the ceremony, attended by Most Rev. Jose Chirackal, the Auxiliary Bishop of Tura, along with numerous priests, religious figures, and thousands of believers.
The event commenced in front of the Sacred Heart Shrine, where the faithful gathered for the reading of Psalms 117:1, praising God for the manifold blessings showered upon the people of Garo Hills through the Diocese of Tura.
Bishop Jose offered introductory words, emphasizing the Jubilee as a time to thank the Lord for the blessings received. He noted the significance of the triduum, a three-day period dedicated to prayer and gratitude, and likened the raising of the Jubilee flag to a symbol of faith and patriotism among the faithful in the Diocese of Tura.
The Golden Jubilee was officially inaugurated by Bishop Andrew, who cut the ribbon and lit the Jubilee lamp. This symbolic act represented the enduring flame of faith in the hearts of the people of Tura Diocese, ever-burning and unwavering.
Following the inaugural program, a Rosary service was conducted inside the church, allowing the congregation to immerse themselves in prayer and reflection.
The high point of the celebration was the Golden Jubilee Mass, concelebrated by a multitude of priests, with Bishop Andrew as the main celebrant. In his introductory remarks, Bishop Andrew invoked the memory of departed souls, especially as November 2 is All Souls Day, a time dedicated to praying for the deceased.
During his homily, Bishop Andrew paid tribute to the early missionaries who tirelessly worked in every corner of Garo Hills, noting that their efforts were bearing fruit today. He highlighted the strong faith of the Garo Hills community, which has led to an impressive 54 local vocations to priesthood and over 190 vocations to the nunhood in the last 50 years.
The Diocese of Tura’s four-day Jubilee celebration aims to bring together even more faithful followers, testifying to their unwavering faith. The hope is that the Diocese of Tura will continue to grow in strength, faith, and love as it moves forward into its next half-century.
