Williamnagar, April 3: Despite the intense heat, a large number of Catholic faithful from in and around Williamnagar gathered at Sacred Heart Parish to observe the solemn and sacred occasion of Good Friday, a day of mourning, prayer, and reflection in the Catholic Church.
The Way of the Cross was led by the Principal of Don Bosco Secondary School, Tura, Rev. Fr. Threnius Sangma, in the presence of the Parish Priest, Rev. Fr. John Thomas. The faithful participated in this meaningful devotion, which traces the journey of Jesus Christ through 14 stations, from His condemnation to His crucifixion and burial. Each station invited the participants to reflect deeply on His suffering and sacrifice for humanity.
Following the Way of the Cross, Fr. Threnius Sangma led the Good Friday service, during which the Passion of the Lord was solemnly proclaimed. This sacred reading allowed the faithful to remember Christ’s sacrifice, relive His suffering spiritually, reflect on sin and redemption, and understand the profound love of God at the heart of Good Friday liturgy.
Later, the cross was presented to the congregation by Fr. Threnius Sangma and Fr. John Thomas for the Veneration of the Cross. One by one, the faithful came forward to kiss the cross as a sign of love, gratitude, and reverence, acknowledging that Jesus Christ suffered and died for the salvation of humankind.
The service ended with the distribution of the Holy Eucharist, where the faithful received Holy Communion with devotion. The congregation then left in silence, reflecting on the sacrifice of Jesus Christ and His message of love and forgiveness.
