SHILLONG, JUNE 12: Deputy Chief Minister in charge PWD (Roads) Prestone Tynsong on Tuesday reviewed road projects implemented by the National Highways & Infrastructure Development Corporation Ltd (NHIDCL) in Khasi-Jaintia Hills and Garo Hills region.
Road projects in Khasi and Jaintia Hills region include four lane road connecting Panchgram, Assam and Shillong Western bypass while in Garo Hills region, the road projects include Dainadubi-Darogre-Williamnagar junction road and Tura-Dalu Road.
Addressing the media after the meeting, Tynsong announced the survey for the four-lane road from Mawlyngkhum, Umiam to Panchgram, Assam.
“The NHIDCL has already reported to us they have updated that the survey is going on and then the committee under the chairmanship of DC, East Khasi Hills, is very active and review meeting at this level is being called regularly in case of any land issue with the land owners or raid or himas whatever, the district committee is supposed to take appropriate step and resolve all those issues,” he said.
“Similarly in West Jaintia Hills and East Jaintia Hills, the deputy commissioners are now on the job having regular meetings in their respective districts to resolve those issues wherever as I said to you when the survey is on we are able to know which land owner is against the parting land or which village is against parting the land and in case that situation arises then the deputy commissioner will call a meeting and discuss with the land owners along with the village authorities and resolve those issues,” Tynsong said while adding “this survey is going on well and I am very sure very soon they will be able to complete the survey work and assessment for land compensation.”
Stating that the four-lane road is one of the most important projects for Meghalaya, Tynsong said, “This is the only project where we called it the NorthEast corridor project, which was already included in the mission 2047 by the NDA government. From the state government, we really wanted to make sure that this project goes smoothly till the handing over of the land to the NHIDCL for construction of the four lane roads.”
Regarding the Shillong Western Bypass, the deputy CM said that the Ri Bhoi DC had already distributed the compensation funds to the concerned landowners.
“We have already reached about 85%, say around 5-6 % within this week, we will cross 90%. East Khasi Hills DC has informed us that right now they have already handed over the land possession up to 70-75 % and within this week again, they will be able to cross 90%.”
He informed that once handing over of land possession reaches 90%, the NHIDCL will handover these portions of land to the concerned company for immediate construction.
As far as Dainadubi-Darogre-Williamnagar junction road is concerned, Tynsong said the project will take off once the handing over of land is completed by the forest department for compensatory afforestation.
He however informed landowners to hand over the possession of land in a few stretches about 2.5km to 3km with regards to Tura-Dalu Road.

“I have given direction to the deputy commissioner, Tura to fast track these pending issues with the concerned landowners as well as the district council so that the hurdles in handing over possession of land can happen immediately. Now, the work is on but only that stretch where we could not start due to land issues. So, I am very sure with this decision we are taking today we will be able to make it happen,” Tynsong said.
Further, the deputy CM also informed the direction has been given to all deputy commissioners to set up a committee in their respective district to resolve any issue pertaining to road projects implemented by the NHIDCL.
