TURA, March 1: Meghalaya Governor Satya Pal Malik has issued an order on March 1st directing the holding of a special session of the GHADC to elect the new Chairman on March 4th.
The post is vacant after Rakesh A Sangma resigned and contested the CEM position winning it against Benedic Marak before he was ultimately forced to resign following weeks of protests in Garo Hills against Sangma.
The governor’s order notified through M R Synrem, Commissioner and Secretary, District Council Affairs Department, Government of Meghalaya, informs that the house is being summoned on March 4th for the GHADC MDCs to participate in the Chairman’s election.
There are 29 directly elected MDCs and one nominated MDC, Aldo A Sangma, from the ruling NPP.
The Chairman’s election is to e conducted by West Garo Hills Deputy Commissioner Ram Singh at 11 AM.
