Meghalaya Energy Corporation Limited (MeECL) on Monday has decided to withdraw the two hour long load-shedding.

Sangma said that this has been possible with the functioning of all units with the exception of NEEPCO sources from Khondong and Kopili which we are awaiting restart. The chief minister thanked the consumers for all the patience and cooperation during the difficult period last month.

The power department drew flak due to the power crisis and several of the consumer’s found it absurd that despite the heavy rainfall the department had to resort to long hours of loadshedding.

Earlier, the loadshedding went on for three hours with specific schedule set by the MeECL or the MePECL. However, the chief minister on Sunday took to his social media page to inform that it has been reduced to two hours.

The chief minister informed that the functioning of the New Umtru Unit and resuming of supply from the OTPC plant, the Power situation is likely to improve and load shedding has been reduced to about 2 Hrs on an average.

He also mentioned that they are awaiting the completion of the repair of the second unit of Stage IV Umiam before theyg take a call of lifting the loadshedding completely which is likely to be soon.

The loadshedding in the state occurred due to the breakdown of some of the units of Leshka Hydroelectric and Umtrew Stage I & II power projects. The power shortage is about 122 MW because of the low generation from these projects.
