GSU, East Garo Hills Unit Urges Fair and Inclusive Teaching Faculty Recruitment at Loyola College Williamnagar

Must read

Williamnagar, July 13: The Garo Student Union (GSU), Eastern Zone, Williamnagar, has brought attention to the recent teaching faculty recruitment advertisement at Loyola College Williamnagar.

In a heartfelt plea, the GSU met with Education Minister Rakkam A. Sangma and PHE Minister Marcuise N. Marak, as well as the local MLA of Williamnagar, and requested that important factors be considered to ensure a fair and inclusive selection process.

The GSU emphasizes the significance of prioritizing the local community in the recruitment of teaching faculty at Loyola College. As an educational institution deeply rooted within the community, it is vital to provide opportunities for local residents to contribute and benefit from the academic environment. By giving preference to qualified candidates from the local community, a sense of ownership and belonging can be fostered, and the retention of local talent within the region can be encouraged.

Additionally, the GSU urges the maintenance of a quota system during the recruitment process to ensure representation from marginalized sections of society. This step is crucial in addressing historical disparities and offering equal opportunities to individuals from diverse backgrounds. By promoting inclusivity and diversity within the teaching faculty, Loyola College Williamnagar can create an enriching and inclusive educational environment that celebrates and respects differences.

The GSU requested the Education Minister to personally attend to ensure that the recruitment process at Loyola College adheres to the principles of fairness, transparency, and inclusivity. Such guidance and support will play a pivotal role in shaping the future of education in the state and fostering a conducive learning environment for the students.

In another matter, the GSU also presented a letter to Education Minister Rakkam A. Sangma and PHE Minister Marcuise N. Marak, addressing concerning issues plaguing the Rongrenggre Government Higher Secondary School in Williamnagar.

The Union urgently appeals for prompt action to address the deplorable conditions that adversely affect the welfare of the student community in the area. One of the most pressing concerns is the absence of a full-fledged Principal at the school for the past five years. This prolonged vacancy has severely hindered the school’s functioning, and any further delay may exacerbate the internal crisis, rendering subsequent damage repair efforts futile.

Moreover, overcrowding in all classes has reached critical levels, creating severely congested classrooms where attendance tracking and discipline enforcement have become nearly impossible. The student-teacher ratio has become unsustainable, jeopardizing the quality of education provided.

Furthermore, the school lacks essential facilities, including a library, adequate science laboratories, proper toilet facilities, a water storage system, and a common room for the students. The double-storied building, donated by the Meghalaya Government Construction Corporation (MGCC) for higher secondary classes, is in a dilapidated state, posing significant risks to students and teachers alike.

Additionally, the classrooms lack basic teaching aids, depriving students of the benefits that modern technologies can bring to enhance their learning experiences.

The GSU emphasizes the urgent need for the government to allocate a modern, multi-storied school building with state-of-the-art facilities, similar to those provided for students in other parts of the country. Access to such infrastructure would equip students with the latest knowledge and skills, enabling them to compete on par with their peers from different regions.

However, the immediate requirement for the school is a dedicated and selfless full-fledged Principal who can prioritize the welfare of the student community, which is currently suffering due to the prevailing circumstances.

In light of these pressing concerns, the GSU urges the Education Minister and the PHE Minister to intervene promptly, rectify the situation, and ensure the well-being of the students.
