Aizawl, Nov 13: After media reports depicting a skirmish between the Myanmar Army and the People’s Defence Force (PDF), leading to a surge in refugee numbers, Assam Rifles officials conducted a crucial meeting on Monday with the village chiefs and leaders of the Young Mizo Association (YMA) and discussed the prevailing situation in the border villages.
On Monday, the officials said that the Assam Rifles organised a security meeting with Village Council Presidents and YMA Secretaries in the eastern Mizoram district of Champhai. The discussions covered a range of issues, with a particular focus on security-related matters concerning the villages along the border.
Meanwhile, intelligence and media reports said that after the intermittent gun fight between the Myanmar Army and the People’s Defence Force (PDF), an armed wing of the National Unity Government of Myanmar, a fresh influx of refugees was reported in the bordering villages of Mizoram.
Media reports quoting Zokhawthar VCP Lalmuanpuia said that over 100 Myanmar families during the past one week took shelter in the Zokhawthar village under Champhai district.
