Guwahati, Sept 7: Guwahati will host the opening match of the ICC Women’s 50-over World Cup on September 30 at the ACA Stadium, Barsapara, BCCI Secretary Debajit Lon Saikia confirmed on Sunday.
Announcing the development, Saikia said India is one of the hosts of the tournament, with matches scheduled across four venues in India and one in Sri Lanka. “The schedule and tie draw are already out. As the host, BCCI has left no stone unturned to ensure the tournament is conducted in the best possible way. Our central and venue teams are fully prepared,” he said.

The opening ceremony in Guwahati will feature playback singer Shreya Ghoshal, who will perform live and sing the tournament’s theme song. “Before and during the opening match, there will be events in consonance with the opening ceremony. The final shape will be clear in three to four days as planning is in the final stage. ICC is coordinating to ensure grandeur, as this is the first time Guwahati and the North East are hosting the ICC World Cup,” Saikia added.
On India’s participation in international tournaments, Saikia clarified that BCCI follows the Central Government’s policy. He said while there is no bar on Indian teams competing in global or continental events such as the Olympics, FIFA World Cup, Asian Games, or Asia Cup, there is a strict restriction on bilateral cricket series with certain countries.
“If it had been a bilateral series, we would not have played with specific countries. The Government’s policy is very clear,” Saikia emphasized.
