Hek inaugurates Covid Care Unit in Shillong

Shillong, May 20: Health Minister Alexander Laloo Hek on Thursday inaugurated the COVID Care Unit and Quarantine Centre for positive cases at Balika Vidyalaya School, Keating Road here.

The Centre was set up by the Marwari Yuva Manch, Shillong (MYM) in association with the Marwari Samaj.

Also present on the occasion were Mission Director of NHM, Meghalaya Ram Kumar.

MYM president Piyush Ajmera said after detailed discussion with the state health ministry and NHM, the proposal was taken up on fast track.

The work for setting up of the unit started on May 12 and was duly completed on May 19 and the same was handed over to the department today.

“This 32 bedded facility will be managed and governed by NHM, Meghalaya. The unit will treat patients with mild to moderate COVID infection,” he said.

Ajmera also informed that MYM has undertaken setting up the infrastructure required for the centre and they will also provide food for the patients & medical staff on daily basis and will undertake any other non-medical work for running of the unit.

The centre was envisaged by MYM looking at the rising number of cases in the East Khasi Hills district and to support the state governments efforts in controlling the pandemic.

Marwari Yuva Manch, Shillong is a voluntary organization. Its primary goal is to support young people in contributing to their community and country.

During the second wave of the pandemic MYM has undertaken projects like distribution of Masks and delivery of freshly prepared food along with requested medicines to home isolated Covid 19 positive patients and their families.
