Hek seeks funds for health infrastructure, flags NEIGRIHMS issue in meeting with Union Health Minister

New Delhi, July 12: Meghalaya Health and Family Welfare Minister, Alexander Laloo Hek on Monday met the newly appointed Union Health and Family Welfare Minister, Mansukh Mandaviya in New Delhi to seek more central funds for further strengthening the health infrastructure facilities in the State to fight the Covid-19 pandemic.

In the meeting, Hek told the Union Minister about the State’s efforts at fighting and containing the Covid-19 in Meghalaya. He urged for more funds for further strengthening of the health infrastructure facilities and to address social determinants of health especially at the village level and block level to provide immediate health care.

Permanent Director for NEIGRIHMS

Hek also flagged the issue of long delay in appointment of permanent Director and Board Director of Governing Body to the North East Indira Gandhi Regional Institute of Health and Medical Sciences (NEIGRIHMS), Shillong.

Hek also suggested the Union Health Minister to increase the number of medical seats and to appoint more medical specialist in NEIGRIHMS hospital in the best interest of the people of Meghalaya and the North Eastern States.

The Union Health Minister has assured the Health minister to provide adequate funds to the State and to sort out the delay in the appointment of a permanent Director and Board Members of Governing Body of NEIGRIHMS at the earliest.

Hek meets Sonowal

Meghalaya Health and Family Welfare Minister, Alexander Laloo Hek also met Union Ayush Minister, Sarbananda Sonowal and submitted a proposal for setting up of the directorate of AYUSH in which total financial implication is Rs. 3,84,90,852 (Three cores eighty four lakhs ninety thousand eight hundred fifty two) including creation of posts at District hospitals (DHs) PHCs And CHCs

Hek also called on Minister of State (MoS) for Labour, Employment and Petroleum, Rameshwar Teli. The Union Minister has assured to Sanctioned a 50-bedded ESIC hospital in Shillong.
